2010 Running Goals

January 12th, 2010 by Shane Kenny | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

I decided to set some running goals for this year.  They are pretty simple, but it will take some work to pull them all off.  Here is the plan:

  1. 5k - My current PR is 24:55 set in Ashley’s Run last year.  I plan to return to that race and run it again this year on March 20th.  However, it is the day before the half marathon I am planning to run so I may need to take it easy.
  2. 10k - I plan to run the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th again this year.  I would like to set a PR here as well and attempt to qualify for running group 1A for the 2011 Peachtree.
  3. Half Marathon - I attempted to run the ING Atlanta Marathon last year and did not make it all the way through the training.  This year I will attempt to run the half at this event.  I have updated the training schedule under “Static Pages” on my blog. Goal is under 2 hours.
  4. Marathon - I am planning to run New York or Chicago this fall.  I will enter the lottery for the New York Marathon and if I get in will run that.  If I don’t get in on the lottery I will sign up for the Chicago Marathon instead.  Goal is under 4 hours.

It is not as many races as I would normally do but it covers all of the common distances.  I’ll try to keep everyone posted on my progress throughout the year.

Friday Firsts

Nibbles Grill

Nibbles Grill is located in Acworth on Main Street next to the Acworth Florist and across the street from Ferguson Chiropractic.  Look for the brightly colored umbrellas and you will be sure not to miss it.

Nibbles is one of those places that you may not venture into unless someone takes you there or someone you trust tells you to go there.  But, if you do not eat here at least once you are missing out on a unique lunch experience.

Everything is simple at Nibbles.  While there are choices on the menu the most likely pick is either the daily special or combo.  I ordered the Friday combo which was appropriately called the Double Bypass.  For $5.00 it included a double cheeseburger, fries or onion rings, and a drink.  Al cooks it and let’s you know when it is done so you can come add whatever fixins you want.  Oh, and pick up your fries or onion rings as well.  Al is not there to be wait on your every need!

If you think that $5.00 is an awesome price for lunch then you will love the daily special even more.  For $1.25 you can pick up whatever the daily special is.  On Friday it is a chili dog.  You literally walk up to a stack of foil-wrapped chili dogs, take what you want, and put your money on the counter.  (There is enough cash and change lying there to make your own change if you need it.)  Beware though… if you ask “what is it?” you will be charged $1.50!!  The special changes every day but is always $1.25.  You can seriously eat lunch for $2.50 if you get the daily special, a side of fries or onion rings, and a water.

I strongly urge you to give Nibbles a try.  I will be going back for sure.  One word of warning though… Al only takes cash so don’t show up with you fancy schmancy credit card and expect to pay him.
